Morning Routine: How we start the day is important. Have you been there? Waking up late, rushing in the morning to get out the door, with an overall feeling of stress? Maybe you work from home and roll out of bed 10 min before a meeting starts? (I’ve been there!). The thing is- when we are rushed, anxious, and stressed in the morning- it can become a cascade effect that bleeds into the rest of our day!
How we live each day is how we live our life
Having a morning routine/ritual that is centered around taking care of YOU pays off tremendously. This creates
- Lower Stress Levels-creating space leads to a calm morning and lower stress levels
- Less Reactive– we can make decisions throughout the day with more awareness & calmness
- Higher Confidence– a morning routine can develop higher confidence levels- by taking care of you and putting yourself first, you are saying YES to yourself!
- Increased Motivation– A morning routine has been shown to increase motivation throughout the day to take care of other tasks. This is because after you have taken care of YOU and have the necessary items done and accomplished, your mind is not preoccupied with feelings of guilt such as “ I still need to work-out today, where will I fit this in?”
Now that we know how important a morning ritual/routine is to your day- the question is what does a morning routine consist of and how do I start?
Step 1– Create a list: Write down what YOU would like to make time for in the morning that fuels you. For example, here are my items:
-10-20 min HIIT Workout
-Meditation
-Journaling
-Walking outside
-Coffee
-Visualization
Step 2– Start SMALL: your life may have to adjust slightly to create space for this. Small steps lead to bigger steps down the road. I recommend starting with 10 minutes in the morning and choose one of the items you created from Step 1. It could be as simple as drinking a glass of water in the morning before starting your day. Keep it small and simple and build from there!
Step 3– Compassion: if your morning doesn’t go as planned, take a deep breath, give yourself compassion, and start again tomorrow! It is normal for mornings to flux and change. Just because one morning doesn’t go as planned doesn’t mean you “failed”- it is an opportunity to learn, grow, and expand. Be gentle with yourself.
I hope this provided value for you and I am so excited to see what kind of morning routine you create! Feel free to share with me your experience and how you feel after taking time for yourself in the morning.
